The hero has changed—gained wisdom, power, or insight—but the world they left behind remains the same. This creates tension because the hero must now find a way to bridge these two worlds.

The hero’s journey has been an exercise in uniting the world of the unknown with the world of the known—for the two are mirror images, opposite sides of the same coin. The challenge now is to communicate to the ordinary world the wisdom and enlightenment the hero has gained from their journey to the land of the gods.

It is not just a physical return—it’s a test to see if they can integrate the wisdom and power they have acquired into their old life.

This is a profoundly relevant stage because how often have we found ourselves in a situation where, after a journey, an intense experience, or a series of transformative encounters, we had to return to everyday life—but as changed individuals?

Many times, after my travels and experiences around the world, I have had to return to the “ordinary world” and face the same dynamics, the same gray faces, and the same mechanisms that, in the first place, made me want to leave.

People may not understand or accept the hero’s transformation.

The hero might feel like an outsider in their own home.

A dear friend once told me that the true journey begins when the lessons learned can be integrated and applied to everyday life.

Transformation is only real if it is lived. It is not enough to return; the hero must embody their wisdom in their daily existence.
