The People Who Hurt You Aren't Bad. They're Unfinished
Charlotte on radical forgiveness, mending a broken heart, and why calling people bad keeps you stuck.
Charlotte said something that I've been sitting with ever since. She doesn't believe in bad people. Not in a naive way — in a way that's been earned through the actual work of mending her own heart.
She called that mending her greatest strength.
Most of us, when we're hurt, reach for the simplest story: they were bad. But Charlotte went somewhere harder. She sat with the pain long enough to see underneath it. Not wickedness. Neutrality. Hurt that was never processed, moving through people until it lands somewhere.
This changes what forgiveness means. Not excusing someone — but releasing the story that keeps you attached to the wound.
The Hero's Journey demands this. At some point, you stop being the person things happened to. You become the person who decided what to do with what happened.
Charlotte made that decision. It didn't make her softer. It made her free.
